C.O.E. Graduate Programs

ED.D. IN CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION

This degree is appropriate if you are seeking advanced preparation in teaching and learning and wish to prepare for professional participation in public and private schools, community colleges, and government and other agencies.

For this degree, you must take:

  • 12 hours of educational foundations courses
  • 21 hours of curriculm and instruction courses
  • 27 hours of selected focus studies, including dissertation and coursework in education and/or non-education areas
  • 30 hours of graduate coursework that is likely to include master's degree hours

Please note that you may end up taking more dissertation hours than the required 9 credits because you must register for ECI 799 each semester while working on your dissertation.

You must also meet the following residency requirements. For more information, please contact our Graduate Studies Office.

The purpose of our doctoral residence requirement is to provide you with oppoprtunities for conferences, seminars, individual study, and interactions with resident faculty and other graduate students.

To make this possible, you must agree to remain free from outside activities that would detract from your scholarly study, research, writing, and other professional activities that further your program of study. You cannot satisfy this residence requirement while working full-time.

We define residency as carrying a minimum load of 9 hours during a semester or 5 hours during a summer session. In all cases, the courses you take must be approved by your advisor and program committee. Course credits counting toward your residence requirement accure only after you have been formally admitted to your program.

After being admitted to a campus-based program, you can meet the residence requirement in one of two ways.

  • by completing at least two sequential semesters on campus, which can include either or both academic year and summer semesters (two five-week summer terms are equal to one semester)
  • or by completing at least two semesters on campus that are not sequential, which include either or both academic year and summer semesters.

Please read through the C&I Doctoral Handbook for more information. Then, if you have further questions, please contact Dr. S. Lapan via email: Stephen.Lapan@nau.edu.
