Nogales Schools , Pima Community College, and College of Education will collaborate to offer this program, which is currently in the planning stages as of school year 1996-1997. The program incorporates field work in school and community settings. Coursework is integrated and thematically organized, leading to a dual major degree in elementary education and special education and to a provisional certificate in bilingual/multicultural education. The student cohort group in this Arizona/Mexico border region will consist chiefly of non-traditional students who are employed as para-educators in local schools. Student teaching may occur in a variety of settings, although it is anticipated that most students will remain in the Southern Arizona/Santa Cruz County area.
