The principal goals of the program are to provide the linguistic theory necessary for ESL teachers, to equip teachers with practical skills of language teaching, and to prepare students for further study in English Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics. |
Primary purpose of program is NOT to prepare students to work in a P-12 setting in the United States. The majority of students obtain teaching position in countries outside the United States, research positions, or community college/university level teaching positions. Additionally, the program only leads towards an Arizona ESL Endorsement and not initial preparation as indicated in the TESOL SPA Program Report Instructions (p. 3). |
