BAILS Learning and Pedagogy

Although it does not lead to teacher certification, the Learning and Pedagogy Emphasis focuses on conceptual knowledge related to student learning, educational issues, human development, assessment, and school and society.

This is an appropriate degree program for those students who want an education background, but do not intend to teach in a public school setting or seek teacher certification at any level. No student teaching is required.

Primary purpose of program is NOT to prepare students to work in a P-12 setting.

EDD Curriculum and Instruction

This degree is appropriate if you are seeking advanced preparation in teaching and learning and wish to prepare for professional leadership and participation in public or private schools, community colleges, universities, and other agencies.

Primary purpose of program is to prepare graduates for the professoriate and/or to work in higher education settings.

The principal goals of the program are to provide the linguistic theory necessary for ESL teachers, to equip teachers with practical skills of language teaching, and to prepare students for further study in English Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics.

Primary purpose of program is NOT to prepare students to work in a P-12 setting in the United States.  The majority of students obtain teaching position in countries outside the United States, research positions, or community college/university level teaching positions.

Additionally, the program only leads towards an Arizona ESL Endorsement and not initial preparation as indicated in the TESOL SPA Program Report Instructions (p. 3).
