The Office of Field Experience is dedicated to providing a quality student teaching or practicum experience for students, mentor teachers, university supervisors, and the schools who host Northern Arizona University students. Practicum RequirementsNAU requires that students earn a minimum number of credit hours of practicum, which is a field experience with a practicing certified teacher. Practicum courses are part of your degree program. Practicum information and requirements will be provided by your College of Education instructors. Requirements for Student Teaching SemesterNAU requires students in all undergraduate and certification teacher education programs to successfully complete a student teaching experience. Student Teaching Applications are accepted from March 21 - April 12 and from September 21 - October 12 each year. Requirements to Student Teaching Student Teaching SemesterStudent Teaching is a required course for all seeking certification. Registration is required; please ask your advisor for the correct course title(s) and code(s). The syllabus for the student teaching course is included in the Student Teaching Handbook. Each experience involves a team consisting of a Student Teacher, Cooperating (Mentor) Teacher, and University Supervisor. The expectations for each role are detailed in the tutorial and handbook.
